Describe your blog:
A Squared is a food-focused lifestyle blog about cooking, eating, and life in Chicago. I work a day job in real estate marketing, but cooking, dining out, traveling, and exploring Chicago are my passions and my favorite ways to spend my free time. On my blog I share recipes, restaurant reviews, travel highlights, and tidbits about life in the fabulous city of Chicago.
What is your favorite post you’ve written or your favorite series/type of post?
This is so tough, but my recipe posts are definitely my favorites… this is where I get to be the most creative: with recipe development, food styling, photography– and I have something to learn in each of those areas, but have come a long way! This recipe post for Roasted Butternut Squash with a Rosemary Pecan Parmesan Crust is one of my favorite original recipes and definitely has some of the best photos that I have ever taken!
What is something you wish you knew how to do related to blogging?
I wish I had more working knowledge of HTML and web design. Sometimes I feel so limited in the design of my blog– especially when I see some of the other beautiful and interesting ones out there! I would love to be able to take some more creative liberties with it.
Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging shortly after I got married. I had just spent a year planning my wedding and needed a new creative project to occupy the hole in my free time that wedding planning left. It started as a blog about my married life, but along the way morphed into a blog about some of my favorite things: cooking, eating, and Chicago.
What is your favorite social platform?
I am all about Instagram and have also rediscovered my love for Pinterest! I think that sharing an image is so much more compelling and interesting than a 140 character statement.
What are a few of your favorite Chicago blogs?
I’m a big fan of my fellow food blogs, of course. A lot of the ones that I follow aren’t Chicago-specific, but a few of my favorite Chicago (food focused!) blogs are: The Kittchen, Lakeshore Lady, Grandbaby Cakes, Live Half Full, Up Close & Tasty.
