My name is Kaitlyn Agnew and I recently started Kait Lately, a lifestyle blog. You may recognize me because I was previously blogging on sistersmarie.com with my sister-in- law Lisa and now, I am looking to forge my own dot com path. As a 30-something new Mom from the suburbs of Chicago, I am looking to find inspiration in the everyday and document experiences in everything from the beautifully curated moments like Sunday morning brunch to the unfiltered and unplugged life of a working Mother.
When did you start blogging and what inspired you to start you blog?
Blogging was such an obscure concept to me when I started and everyone who has been doing this for awhile knows how much different it looked, even as short as 5 years back. I started blogging in May of 2012 when Lisa of @balancinglisa and I began an online business together. The blog was originally a small extension of the brand, intended to educate and serve as a marketing piece for the site but over the course of a few months, it took on a different shape and morphed into a lifestyle blog which would provide us with a fun ride for the next 6+ years. I’ve always loved fashion so the idea of documenting daily outfits or “ootd’s” was slightly fascinating to me and that’s really what it used to be – taking photos in what you were wearing that day, even if it was a simple jeans and t-shirt look, photographed with your camera and a tripod. I know things have gotten way more complex in terms of outfit posts, shopping them, swiping up, etc. but I still miss the simplicity of that basic idea.
While I always plan to include style in my content, my priorities are a bit different these days and since I tend to spend my work from home days in the same pair of VS sweat pants, there isn’t always a ton of glamour! But with that in mind, I am enjoying writing about all the aspects of being a Mom and recently began a new series, “Motherhood Unmessed.” Let’s be honest, if you have kids, you know how messy life is, both literally and figuratively, so through the wonderful advice and suggestions from all the amazing Mama’s in my life, I’m hoping to make yours a little less messy, or at least upgrade to organized chaos! If you are a Mom and interested in writing something, I would love to chat! Please email me: Kaitlately@gmail.com.
What is your favorite blog post that you have written?
I’ll share one from both blogs since my new one has only been up for a few months! This post will always stick out from Sisters Marie because it was one of the scariest experiences of my life, one I’ll never forget. Once I got up enough courage to actually be photographed and share the details after it happened, it felt really good to share, here.
On Kait Lately, I really enjoyed writing my first post because it was so exciting to be in my own space with the freedom to say whatever was on my mind but I was also nervous about putting it out there and gaging people’s reactions, here.
What do you love about blogging?
I love story telling. Writing has always been therapeautic for me and there’s something freeing about being able to document everything I’m feeling and share it with others, especially if I can make a connection with someone who is having similar experiences. I have met and continue to meet many interesting people who are in similar stages in their lives through blogging so it has opened up a whole world of connectivity, advice and friendships.
What are some brands that you have worked with, or some brands that you would love to work with?
I have had the opportunity to work with so many amazing brands throughout my
blogging career who have all been so good to me. Some of my favorites include J.Jill, Shopbop, Cabi Clothing, Just Fab, Sole Society, Buy Buy Baby, Hormel, La Croix, Park Lane Jewelry, Brit + Co, Glo Skin Beauty and Fitcode. Some day, I would love the opportunity to travel more and review not only Family friendly events and destinations but things that feed my soul on a personal level such as new fitness experiences or places inspired by nature and the outdoors. I’m also a huge a dog lover so it would be fulfilling to partner up with brands who support safe and humane treatment of animals, like Grounds for Hounds. They were such a fun brand to work with because it doesn’t get much better than coffee and puppies, right?!
