Hello, my name is Sonia Blanco, creator of the fashion blog Simply, Sonia. My blog is about sharing my personal style and the deep love I possess for fashion. Through the blog, I share my own ideas & tips on how to style outfits, shopping tips, current trends, and travel.
When did you start blogging and what inspired you to start your blog?
I started blogging five years ago. I worked as a visual merchandise manager for over 10 years, my life was consumed with fashion on an everyday basis, and I absolutely loved it! After exiting that role in my career, I was left with a creative hole. Starting the blog was the perfect outlet for me to continue to express my love of fashion and have a platform to share everything I have learned along the way. By creating Simply, Sonia, I hoped for it to help and inspire people, through my way of style.
What is your favorite blog post that you have written?
My collaboration with BeBop clothing is definitely a favorite! I had the opportunity to work with them for the first time and feature their clothing on the blog. I loved that the fact that their brand provides today’s young women with a positive and empowering message behind their clothing. I had a fantastic time shooting throughout some of my favorite spots in Chicago, in their clothing.
What do you love about blogging?
What I love about blogging is that it provides me with a voice to express my love of fashion. One of my earliest memories I have as a little girl, was when I was in the fitting rooms with my mom and several aunts, here I was putting in my own two cents on what dresses looked good on them for a big wedding we would be attending. Crazy enough each of them listened to me, trusted me? Until this very day, that moment has meant everything to me. I fell in love with fashion at a very young age and by blogging it has given me a new way to keep my passion growing. Blogging has helped my voice stretch a little farther than just my family members. It moves me with great satisfaction to know I am able to help out even just one person look at fashion in a new light, by my personal style choices. After reading my posts I hope I am sending out a positive message to readers that fashion does not have to be intimating, fashion is for everyone, and it doesn’t have to break the bank.
What are some brands that you have worked with, or some brands that you would love to work with?
BeBop Clothing, a young woman’s trendsetting brand based in California. I have been a fashion contributor for Chicago Scene magazine. I worked with the Frock Shop; they rent amazing dresses from coveted designers for your entire social event needs. I also worked with Latino Fashion Week to cover their events and fashion shows held in Chicago. I would love to work with Chicago brands Bow & Arrow Collection, Felt, and Humboldt House. Zara, Old Navy, and Target are also brands I would love to collaborate with one day, it would be a dream to work with them!
