Why You Need A Media Kit

Do you have a media kit? Every blogger needs one, no matter how big or small their following might be, because media kits are a way to pitch your service to brands.

Media kits get the conversation started. Whether a brand emailed you, or you are pitching an idea, a media kit is a way to get a brand interested. We all get those vague emails from brands saying that they want to collaborate. Instead of sending 10 emails back and forth only to discover that the brand isn’t offering you a paying gig, send your media kit instead. Simply say, “Thank you for your interest in working with me. I have enclosed my media kit. Please let me know if you are interested and we can discuss my rates.” It is a polite way to cut to the chase and let the brand know that you want to be compensated for your work.

Media kit’s memorialize your successes. A year from now you can compare your stats and see how far they have come. You could even add facts based on the growth of your blog. Maybe you can say something like: “My blog’s traffic increased 4 x in 2014!” or “My social media following tripled !” These stats can emphasize rapid growth, which is especially important if you are just starting out.
