Hello beautiful bloggers! I’m Kaley Johnson, founder of Zenzista. We make navigating the wellness world easy. With so much out there about Ayurveda, ashwagandha, and what you should or shouldn’t be putting in your smoothie, it can be really overwhelming! But it doesn’t have to be. Our weekly newsletter recaps only the best of health and wellness news in a quick, easy-to-read format, and we’re always sharing our own articles, guides and expert interviews for living a happy, healthy life.
When did you start blogging and what inspired you to start your blog?
I’ve always felt like I had one foot in two worlds. On the one hand, a career girl who wants to buy pretty things. On the other, a dreamer and a free spirit who wouldn’t mind packing up and living on a commune somewhere. It wasn’t until the idea of Zenzista dawned on me that I finally realized the importance of bridging these two worlds.
I had been working in marketing, and suddenly, getting people to buy more stuff wasn’t a good enough reason to wake up in the morning. I wanted to pursue a healthier lifestyle and a path more connected to my beliefs but was finding it really hard to keep up with all the information that’s out there. I figured I couldn’t be the only one, so I decided to take the leap, quit my job and start making it easier for working women to keep up with wellness.
What is your favorite blog post that you have written?
“One yogi phrase that’s gotten me through life” is a prime example of my personality. I run a wellness site but I am nowhere near perfect, and I love to embrace that with some blend of humor and sensibility. The article is about how life is full of uncomfortable moments, and you can either let your mind take over and try to fight it, or you can acknowledge the discomfort and move on.
“Are you living dharma or karma?” is a close second that breaks down the importance of living your purpose instead of getting wrapped up in your relationships with other people. I think there’s a misperception out there that doing what’s best for you is somehow selfish in some way, and I’d like to change that. I think if everyone did what they loved, the world would be a better place.
What do you love about blogging?
The freedom to figure it all out for myself. The creativity. The adrenaline rush that comes with being vulnerable. Hopefully helping people by making their lives easier. And giving myself the opportunity to someday have a positive impact in this world.
What are some brands that you have worked with, or some brands that you would love to work with?
We’ve worked with Bare Bones (a natural dye clothing company) to bring the issue of fast fashion to light as well as natural beauty brands like Lauren B Beauty, Kjaer Weis and Shea Moisture. We’re working with FinalStraw to get the 411 on plastic straw pollution, and we’ve interviewed or collaborated with a feng shui expert, meditation guru, sex therapist, naturopath, energy healers, women’s health specialists and life coaches…
Basically, we love working with people and brands who are passionate about creating positive change in ourselves and the world!
