Hi, I’m Ellen and I’m the creator of Off-Script Recipes, a website where I chronicle my stories and recipes from a life spent concocting, connecting, and feeding my soul in the kitchen. OSR is for people who love the act of cooking, the simple delight of
channeling inspirations from all over—recipes, food media, farmers markets, restaurants, and their own food-obsessed imagination—into original creations. I’m not about a particular food regime or diet script. I’m just about making home cooking, eating, and gathering around the table a memorable experience from beginning to end.
When did you start blogging and what inspired you to start you blog?
I started blogging in the summer of 2017 when I realized that it could be the creative outlet that I’ve been craving for quite some time. I’m not a painter, a cobbler, a thrower of clay (although I’ve tried them all). I’m a writer and cook at heart. In front of my cutting board and laptop is where I feel most inspired and in my element.
What is your favorite blog post that you have written?
Tough one, but I’d have to say my post for Peppermint Mocha Cupcakes. For starters, this post got the attention of Giada De Laurentiis via her Instagram feed @thegiadzy which was a nice boost. But, what really elevates this post above all others for me is that it is based on one of the first recipes I ever captured, carried with me, and made time-and- again for the people I love. Read the story here!
What do you love about blogging?
The possibility. Most of my life I’ve pursued things with a very clear vision for where they’re going, the end-game. Yet, with blogging I don’t really have that—not because I am wayward in this pursuit, but because I am open, free, and—quite honestly—fulfilled with the act (i.e. not in need of an end-game). As mentioned above, I started blogging to have a creative outlet, and it was that from day one. Now, the possibility for where it could go, how it could evolve, and the people that it could bring into my life are what keep it exciting.
What are some brands that you have worked with, or some brands that you would love to work with?
Blogging has not really been about brand sponsorships or relationships for me. I often mention brands that I think bring something remarkable or unique to my cooking experiences or recipes—but solely to show my appreciation and help my readers. Rather than work with other brands, I hope to someday leverage my blog to create a brand of my own. Stay tuned for Off-Script™ Ovens! It’s in the works and hopefully coming to a market near you soon.
