Friday Five

Happy Friday, everyone! This is Emily from Out and About where I write about running, travel, and life in my beloved hometown Chicago. I’ve been a member of the WCBC for almost a year, and have thoroughly enjoyed meeting and learning from so many amazing and talented bloggers. Keep the inspiration going, my friends!

Running was the basis on which my blog was founded, and the fall racing season is currently in full swing. Congratulations to everyone who recently completed the Chicago Marathon and/or other milestone races! Last weekend, I was in Washington DC to run the Army 10-Miler. It was an incredibly humbling and moving experience. Check out my recaps of the expo and the race .

Speaking of racing and marathoning, I loved Erica’s running spectator tips. These suggestions are spot-on for ANY race. My favorite was her note about only telling runners they are “almost there” when they can actually see the finish line.

Many health and fitness enthusiasts like me are always on the lookout for innovative new gear. In my opinion, a woman can never have too many pairs of running shoes. =) I was intrigued when Lauren wrote about a new wearable hydration monitor that will be coming onto the marketplace soon. Hydration can be a surprisingly challenging balance, so this monitor looks like a terrific tool.

On the note of staying balanced, I really appreciated Maggie’s recent post about pushing ourselves past our comfort zone. I think a lot of us can easily relate to the frequent mental struggles, questioning ourselves, and letting ourselves get into our own heads. If life’s challenges were easy, we’d all be billionaires, yes?

It’s all about perspective.

Last but not least, I love Erin’s “Style Imitating Art” series. Each week, someone chooses a piece of artwork and asks folks to share outfits inspired by that piece. Recently, Erin shared some fun interpretations of a Le Chien Noir piece with the help of her adorable pup, Chewie. Look at those dog ears!

That’s a wrap for me! As always, I look forward to reading and sharing in all of your adventures. Please stay in touch! I blog at Out and About, and you can also find me on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram.

Cheers to a fabulous weekend ahead!
